Credentials

I am a web developer at The University of Montana, I work for the central IT department and i am one member of an excellent team responsible for the UM Home page. I live in Missoula with my wife and son (he’s 2).

I’ve worked on a variety of projects.

I have been the webmaster for a Professional School at The University Of Montana • I am an Eagle Scout • I have been a Java Developer for Oracle Portal (And presented on PDK Development) • I have setup numerous web servers, both IIS and Apache, supporting PHP, Perl, Ruby, MySQL and MS SQL Server • I have been that guy from Kinko’s who is too stupid to make your copies right • I have created a central blogging system for the University of Montana that used WordPressMu and ties into a central authentication server • I have installed multiple instances of MediaWiki to be used by students, faculty and staff • I have set up installed and configured Moodle and WordpressMu to work with a CAS server • I have played with the administration side of iTunesU • I have supported a University homepage, landing pages and CMS, written • NET (C#) • I have used Linux (Ubuntu) as my primary OS for several years • I have organized and presented at a workshop for website accessibility and good html and css practices • I am a member of the Nonprofit Technology Network's (NTEN) affiliate in Missoula. •  I co-own my own business. 

Thoughts:

  • Coffee is necessary.
  • Sushi has no equal.
  • I’m a sucker for PHP.
  • 3rd Party software is poorly written and poorly organized.
  • Open Source is Inherently good.
    • It is true that open source software is often 3rd party, but the caveat is that if it’s open source you can do something about it.
  • Microsoft is Inherently Evil.
  • Everything i know i learned from tinkering.
