Open Source promotes sharing and progress. and encourages folks to use good coding practices. and helps new people learn about code. I’m not saying all code should be free of charge. But I am saying that if you buy software you should get the source so you can change it, and make it better. Even if you don’t distribute it. How are you supposed to master software if you don’t know how it does what it does. really is there anyone (other than the developers) that know everything any Microsoft product is capable of and how and why?

I've had many situations where I've gotten far better support for an open source product through IRC chat, Emailing and IMing Developers than I get from the paid support from commercial product. Developers and maintainers of Open Source projects actually appreciate their users and it's encouraging to get to talk to someone who wants to talk to you, not who has to talk to you.
